The project was a tall order in more ways than one. A 65m control tower to replace the existing one at Manchester Airport, making it the second highest in the UK. Toproc Rapid was chosen for its pour consistency and high early strength. The job was completed on time after a 24-hour continuous pour.
Some ideas only exist on paper. However through constructive thinking and collaboration with Tarmac, these ideas can be transformed into reality.
Tarmac are actively supporting the growing aviation sector through early engagement with clients and contractors to understand the key challenges being faced at sector or project level. Our approach is supporting customers with savings in time, reduced construction costs, improved sustainability and quality, streamlined logistics and continuous improvement with the use of technology.
Following planing to replace the worn out car park, ULTIFASTPAVE was recommended to provide a single combined binder and surface course layer. ULTIFASTPAVE proved to be an effective solution both in terms of project cost and duration of work.
Working as a key supply chain partner to main contractor Morgan Sindall, Tarmac undertook the resurfacing of Heathrow Airport’s Southern Runway, Southern Rapid Exit Taxiways (RETs), Northern Runway and Northern Turnoffs which included upgrading some of the existing turnoffs into (RETs).
In aviation there is no room for error. Collaboratively we ensure that project requirement is completely understood. We recognise the need to think bigger and are all aware of the project objectives; our delivery is planned and rehearsed. Risks are continually reviewed and contingency plans are vast to ensure the complex impacts of airport operations, safety and security are met.
Strict working operations rely on absolute performance; on-time delivery, quality and contingency. Downtime is not an option. We understand the commitment required to keep works on plan and flight schedules free from disruption.
At Heathrow we are currently the nominated framework supplier for pavement works. Supporting the airports operational needs has required the installation of approximately 1 million tonnes of concrete and asphalt in just 4 years from dedicated airside and landside plants.
Across the UK our contracting teams have laid Marshall Asphalt to over 70 separate aviation schemes.
