What are Forest Schools?

Within the National Curriculum, Forest Schools offer learners of all ages and abilities, an opportunity to develop confidence and self-esteem through hands on learning in a woodland or natural environment.

Children learn to manage risk, respect their local environment and develop their own ideas. They also gain life-long skills including independence, team working and confidence in the outdoors.

By participating in engaging, motivating and achievable tasks and activities in a woodland environment, each child has the opportunity to develop motivational, emotional and social skills - and reach their own potential.

Why at Panshanger Park?

Panshanger Park offers an unrivalled range of environments for Forest Schools. Hundreds of veteran trees, beautiful bluebell woodlands, wetlands, farmland, historic landscapes and heritage interest, a globally rare chalk stream and considerable public access. Over the next five years, the quarrying and restoration activities will provide a further variety of experiences.

Why in Partnership with Herts & Middlesex Wildlife Trust?

Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust (HMWT) works to create an environment rich in wildlife for everyone across the two counties. They also work with local communities to provide wildlife conservation and encourage people to be active volunteers. The Trust is committed to building a Living Landscape, an environment rich in wildlife for everyone, by restoring, recreating and reconnecting wildlife rich habitats in both towns and the countryside.

Lafarge Tarmac enjoys a long term partnership with HMWT, reflecting a common shared interest, vision and commitment to local education opportunities – as well as wildlife conservation and new habitat creation.
