Defence

Our customers across the Ministry of Defence work with us because they trust us to deliver effective and high-quality service and supply. Our ability to combine innovative thinking with an agile and flexible approach has supported its infrastructure network since the First World War when we were actively engaged in road-making in France and PoWs manned quarries due to labour shortages caused by  conscription demands.

Today we work closely to support modern challenges. Most recently we have been actively engaged on runway surfacing at RAF Waddington and supplying solutions to provide optimum stability, manoeuvrability and performance solutions to Royal Navy vessels including the Type 45 Destroyer and latest QE Class of aircraft carriers.

Security When working with defence customers we respect the challenges of maintaining high levels of security throughout our on and off site operations. We demonstrate that we understand their environment, logistic requirements and plant movement processes.
Flexible and agile Across our materials and contracting solutions we offer a rapid response facility to produce, supply and install. We offer security vetted personnel and experienced teams that can be quickly mobilised to specific locations.
Investment With the government committed to the delivery of ‘First Class Infrastructure’ as part of its long term economic plan, investment in construction across defence assets also presents stretching carbon reduction targets, exacting quality control and durable performance requirements. Having supplied UK defence partners for 100 years we feel we offer a unique combination of scale, knowledge and expertise.

"I've worked with Tarmac on a number of defence airfield projects throughout the years. I've always enjoyed working with Tarmac because they bring a lot of experience to the projects and everybody is always very open and transparent which is very good for collaborative working."

Case Study
Ministry of Defence - Otterburn

Whilst working at the MOD training camp project objectives included the elimination of environmental and social impact of truck movements. To achieve this we installed a site batch concrete plant at the barracks. To upgrade the carriageways and 46 hard standings used for rocket and gunfire we installed over 40,000m3 of specialist performance readymix - Toproc SY for extreme performance attributes and a pigmented application for aesthetics designed to match the surrounding environment.
