Roads

Investment in and management of highway assets are clear priorities for Central and Local Government and the Private Sector.  In the UK the highway asset is valued at over £800bn, making it the most valuable government asset comprising pavements, footways, structures, communications, lighting and ancillary assets.

It enables day-to-day journeys, the movement of goods and supports local and national economic development.  In June 2013 the Government committed an unprecedented £11.4 billion to maintain the local and national highway networks over the course of the next parliament. As the UK’s largest surfacing contractor we are at the heart of that commitment.

Government We work as a main contractor to deliver small to medium sized highway improvement schemes through established framework contracts for Highways England, Transport Scotland Welsh Government and many Local Authorities. We also work as a specialist supplier to Tier 1 contractors on major new-build/widening projects. We work collaboratively with our customers to develop and install pavement solutions which deliver value for money.
Private Sector We use our technical and operational experience and expertise to work with clients to develop bespoke pavement solutions for the private, industrial and commercial sectors. As an example of this, we are the contractor of choice for the British Cycling Federation following our development of a technique and specialist equipment which allows us to continuously surface outdoor velodromes with steeply banked tracks (up to 35o). Since 2004 we have completed 9 outdoor Olympic standard velodromes with a tenth planned for later this year.
Term Maintenance As Central Government funding becomes increasingly focussed on effective asset management, we have utilised our pavement construction and maintenance expertise to secure long term contacts with Local Authorities to maintain their highway assets. Our contracts with Halton and Warrington, Norfolk, Nottinghamshire, Walsall and Rutland Councils sees us carrying out a wide range of activities including winter maintenance, gully emptying and drainage repairs and emergency response in addition to routine surfacing and scheme delivery.
