Tarmac urges continued vigilance on water safety ahead of summer holidays

Tarmac has once again urged local communities living around quarries to remain vigilant during the school holidays, and remain aware of the dangers of swimming in quarry lakes.

Quarry lakes can seem tempting, but are often deep and cold, and can contain hidden hazards. Sadly, there are an average of five fatalities each year in UK quarries, involving members of the public, the majority of which are water-related and occur in disused sites.

The company is a long-term supporter of the Mineral Products Association’s Stay Safe campaign, which aims to spread the quarry safety message. Stay Safe is part of an ongoing industry focus on improving site safety and protecting local communities around quarry sites, by educating people on this important issue.
