Tarmac host train naming ceremony

Tarmac recently played host to The Worshipful Company of Paviors and GB Railfreight at its Harper Lane site, for their annual Technical visit and a locomotive naming ceremony.

The event saw GB Railfreight name a locomotive ‘The Pavior’ in honour of the venerable City of London livery company, which promotes the craft of paving through community outreach programmes and fellowships. During the event, around 25 visitors from the Paviors were given a tour of Tarmac's innovative rail linked asphalt plant at Harper Lane, which supplies a range of specialist products to customers across London and the South East. The Paviors and GB Railfreight were then joined by the Dean of St Albans, who blessed the locomotive as part of the naming ceremony.

Mark Wood, Tarmac’s Regional Managing Director, Materials South said:“We were proud to welcome The Paviors and GB Railfreight to our flagship site at Harper Lane, which was also a fitting location for the locomotive naming ceremony. Tarmac has supported much of the charitable work carried out by the Paviors, including working with the London Construction Academy, from which we have employed three young people into apprenticeship roles at some of our London sites over the past few years.”
