What is a Wildlife Watch group?
Wildlife Watch groups are a national Wildlife Trusts network aiming to enable young people to enjoy and explore their surroundings, appreciate and understand the influences which have shaped their environment and involve them in taking action for the future.
In Wildlife Watch groups, participants get to know and enjoy their local area - for example through fungus forays or tree games - and care for their local environment by doing things like organising litter picks, creating habitats such as bug hotels, or helping to restore ponds. They may also participate in projects recording species, monitoring the environment and contributing to wider community action. Together, these activities enable them to build personal and social skills and knowledge whilst developing a positive relationship with their local environment. By nurturing their curiosity and building confidence within a group, the aim is that participants will be inspired to continue learning and exploring in other areas of their lives.
Who can join a Wildlife Watch group?
Anybody between the ages of 8 and 12 can join. The group provides a safe space for young people to enjoy the outdoors under the supervision of fully trained volunteer leaders.
How does the Wildlife Watch group work?
The group will run monthly throughout the year with activities taking on different themes as we move through the seasons.
Bookings will be taken in blocks at a time, with a fee of £3 per child per session on a first come, first serve basis with places limited to 15 children per session.
