An innovative glow in the dark paving system that absorbs ultraviolet rays during the day and radiates a soft luminescent light at night has been used to bring a new commercial development in Derbyshire to life. 

  Panshanger Park, the Tarmac-owned former quarry and now popular country park and nature reserve, boasts more than 800 ‘veteran’ trees that are, in-turn, home to hundreds of species of wildlife ranging from microscopic insects to animals, like bats and birds. 

Derbyshire Wildlife Trust’s historic Aqueduct Cottage has received a £21,000 donation from the Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund. The money will be used to design and install visitor information in the restored cottage, and help visitors find out about the Derwent Valley and surrounding area.

Tarmac held a virtual roundtable with young people, and alumni, from Solutions for the Planet’s Big Ideas Programme, to discuss climate change and sustainability issues that mattered to them.  

When the Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund donated more than £45,000 to a Leicestershire scout group, the money not only enabled the troop to save their hut roof, but also provided a thriving new hub for the local community. 

History – ancient and modern – features heavily at Fonmon Castle in South Wales after Tarmac installed a new exhibit about the construction industry in the castle grounds.

Two Derby schoolchildren are enjoying life in the saddle after winning a Tarmac-sponsored competition to design new bikes to highlight the benefits of cycling to school.

An all-girls football team is poised to pounce on their rivals, dressed in new shirts thanks to a donation from Tarmac.

Pupils from Bellingham Middle School and Dr Thomlinson Middle School attended an action-packed STEM event at Tarmac’s Barrasford Quarry, which brought Northumberland National Park’s first six-week STEM Festival to a close.
