Tarmac will once again sponsor and host the Welwyn 10K, a Garden City Runners’ annual event, at Panshanger Park. The race will follow a single-lap, 10km off-road route through the park’s historic and natural landscape, with a shorter 2km family fun run also taking place.
The scenic course showcases some of Panshanger Park’s most iconic features, including views of the Mimram River, the 500-year-old Great Oak, Queen’s Wood – planted in honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II – and the remains of the original Orangery.
This year, members of the Tarmac team will be taking part in the event, running in support of Mudlarks, a Hertford-based charity that works with adults and young people with learning disabilities and mental health concerns. Through supported learning and meaningful community projects, Mudlarks helps individuals build confidence, develop essential skills and lead more independent and fulfilling lives.
Mudlarks operates a range of local initiatives across Hertford, including community gardening projects, training and employment opportunities, and activities at its forest school at Panshanger Park, which connects young adults with the natural environment. The charity’s work plays an important role in supporting people to take an active and valued role within the community.
Entries for the Welwyn 10K are now open. All finishers will receive a sustainable wooden medal and a digital certificate. The Panshanger Park team will provide support with event logistics and site access throughout the day.
Michael Charlton, Estate Manager at Tarmac, said: “We are delighted to welcome the Welwyn 10K back to Panshanger Park. It is fantastic to see the event return, making the most of the park’s trail network and highlighting its unique ecological and historical features, while also supporting an important local cause.”
