Tarmac volunteers support Ride Bristol with cycle trail maintenance at Ashton Court

August 1, 2025

Tarmac volunteeringTarmac colleagues recently joined forces with local charity Ride Bristol for a volunteering day dedicated to maintaining the much-loved cycle trails at Ashton Court.

The initiative saw 15 employees from Tarmac’s South West & Wales team assist with improving one of the site’s well-used trails by transporting and compacting stone to ensure it remains safe and accessible for years to come.

Ride Bristol is a volunteer-run registered charity that builds and maintains cycle trails across Ashton Court in Bristol. Since 2018, Tarmac has supported the charity through regular donations of stone from its Stancombe Quarry in Bristol. Ride Bristol relies solely on volunteers to shape and maintain the trail network, which serves a passionate and diverse cycling community.

Tarmac’s South West & Wales team has committed to a further donation of stone to support additional renovation work across the area’s cycle tracks. The team also aims to make volunteering days a recurring event, continuing to strengthen its positive impact on the local community.

Tarmac volunteeringRide Bristol said: “A massive thanks to you and all your colleagues. There is a huge amount of goodwill towards Tarmac amongst Ride Bristol and our wider volunteer community. Without your ongoing support it is doubtful the cycle trails at Ashton Court would even exist today. As such we were delighted that you were able to spend the day to participate in our work.”

Ben Chase, Commercial Director – South West & Wales, said: “It was great to spend the day out of the office and spend time with my colleagues from the region and work together to give back to the Bristol Community. It was refreshing to spend time together outside of the office environment and learn more about each other and I am looking forward to the next volunteering day.”
